《游吟欧罗巴》系列 Wandering and Chanting in Europa Series

此系列作品最初缘起于我在法国巴黎国际艺术城驻留的经历。在遍访巴黎大大小小的美术馆和历史建筑之余,我也匆匆游历了欧洲其他几个国家。我在这片陌生的土地上四处漫游,语言,文化和景观均有别于熟悉的环境,但我依然感到宾至如归。亲眼见到名作真迹的震撼无需赘言,即便单纯在大街小巷中漫步,或是车窗外一闪而过的景观,也仿佛将我带回了艺术史中伟大作品的现场,并向我揭示出关于形式和色彩的无穷可能性。这种不期而至的馈赠在这段美妙的时光中无处不在,带给我无尽的灵感,又时常令我痛惜它太过短暂。后来我又一次一次重返欧洲,如同某种无法满足的灵魂的饥渴。


《游吟欧罗巴》系列便是对这些经历的重温。在作画过程中,回忆再次变得鲜活,它从我的内部升起并在画布上重获肉身,成为足以对抗时间流逝的锚点。甚至在相隔一段时空距离回顾时,我才更完整地感受到欧洲复杂而迷人的多重性。那正是拉斐尔的罗马!那正是格列柯的托莱多!那正是贾科梅蒂的巴黎!古往今来多少大师便是在这与我远隔重洋的油画发源之地观看与作画。那样的经验,视觉的、生存的、信仰的经验,以何等神秘的方式孕育了油画的传统与辉煌。我必须自问,这种经验是否可能,以及在何种程度上可能与我个人产生共鸣。无论如何,我不愿停下手中的画笔,语言难以抵达之处,绘画似乎有望触及。



This series of works originally stemmed from my residency experience at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France. In addition to visiting countless museums and historic buildings across Paris, I also made brief trips to several other European countries. As I wandered through these unfamiliar lands—where the language, culture, and landscapes were all markedly different from my familiar surroundings—I nevertheless felt completely at home. The profound impact of seeing masterpieces in person needs no elaboration. Even simply strolling through the streets and alleys, or catching fleeting glimpses of scenery from a train window, seemed to transport me back to the very sites where the great works of art history were created, revealing to me the infinite possibilities of form and color. These unexpected gifts were everywhere during that wonderful period, offering me endless inspiration while often leaving me regretful that the time was all too brief. In the years that followed, I returned to Europe again and again, as if driven by an insatiable hunger of the soul.

The Wandering and Chanting in Europa series is a revisitation of these experiences. During the painting process, memories once again came alive; they rose from within me and took on flesh upon the canvas, becoming anchors capable of resisting the passage of time. Even when looking back from a certain distance in time and space, I was able to sense the complex and fascinating multiplicity of Europe more completely. That is Raphael's Rome! That is Greco's Toledo! That is Giacometti's Paris! Numerous masters from ancient times to present have viewed and painted in this birthplace of oil painting, which is so far away from my homeland. What a mysterious way these visual, existential, and faith experiences had nourished the tradition and glory of oil painting. I cannot help but ask myself whether, and to what extent, such experiences can resonate with me personally. In any case, I have no wish to lay down my brush. Where language fails to arrive, painting seems to hold the promise of touching.
